This refreshing, green superpower summer drink — an apple, pineapple, kiwi smoothie with mint and lemon — is the perfect nutritional powerhouse if you need a kick on a hot summer day and here is what you need.

There are many benefits of adding a crunchy, juicy apple to our apple, pineapple, kiwi smoothie. Did you know that there are over 2,500 varieties of apples? And 25% of an apple’s volume is air, that’s why they float and are the perfect choice for barrel bobbing. But seriously, apples are packed with vitamin C, B vitamins, dietary fiber, minerals and phytonutrients. One stand-out benefit of apples is that it improves our neurological health because quercetin can help reduce cellular death caused by inflammation and oxidation of neurons.

Another super beneficial ingredient for our apple, pineapple, kiwi smoothie is a big slice of pineapple and just a reminder, even though we call the pineapple a fruit, it is actually a berry. So maybe this is a fact about pineapples that you may not already know, yet. A single pineapple takes almost 3 years to reach maturation and once you pick a pineapple, it won’t continue to ripen. Kiwi is the next fruit for our apple, pineapple, kiwi smoothie and just like pineapples, kiwis are actually berries and contain enzymes which help in protein absorption, which makes them the perfect choice after an intense workout. And if you are a health and beauty junkie, you probably already know that kiwis are a popular ingredient for nourishing, exfoliating anti-aging face masks, because they are rich in vitamins C, E and K as well as alpha hydroxy fruit acids. And if you have trouble sleeping, kiwis contain serotonin and antioxidants, which help you to fall asleep when you eat 2 one hour before bedtime.

We love lemons. Not only do we start our day with a glass of lemon water, we also add them to lots of our salads and smoothies to get a kick of freshness. This citrus fruit is packed with vitamin C, which can help to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. On top of that, lemons come with a pH of 2.2, which helps to alkalinize our own pH. And a cool tip if you need to freshen your breath after a meal, drink a glass of lemon water.

We like to use fresh mint leaves to add a special twist to our apple, pineapple, kiwi smoothie Did you know that early Romans believed that eating mint leaves can increase intelligence? Besides, they thought that the scent of mint leaves stops a person from losing his or her temper, which is why they often times carried mint springs in their pockets. APPLE PINEAPPLE KIWI SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS

  • 1 green apple, cored and quartered
  • 1 kiwi, peeled
  • 1 slice pineapple
  • 10–12 mint leaves
  • ½ lemon
  • 1 cup of water

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add all the ingredients in the blender.
  2. Start blending on low speed and gradually increase. Blend until smooth.
  3. Add ice cubes if you like.
